Sharp First Edition, First Printing of this classic story of the "Hercules" of the black community of the lower Mississippi. Original decorative green cloth with paper spine label has very minor surface wear and some dust shadowing along the edges. A small area on each paste-down has a bit of foxing but Square, tight and otherwise very clean throughout. Attractive unclipped wrapper has some edge and spine wear and a shallow front cover crease. Spine is mildly tanned. but still a bright, fresh and complete example. Looks much better than a Very Good but we'll stay conservative. Protected with an archival-quality mylar cover. 25 Woodcuts by J.J. Lankes. An excellent collectable copy and fairly uncommon in dust-wrapper.
