The First Edition was 1879 and has the same date on both the title page and copyright page, Bound in original decorated brown cloth with titles in gilt on spine and stamped in black, with borders and decorations, on the front board. Patterned end-papers. Square, tight and clean throughout with just a touch of toning to page edges but paper is clean and supple. Some gentle bumping to spine ends. Mild rubbing to surface and edges. Very well-preserved. A sharp copy of this anti-KKK novel. (Wright #5520).
