Two volumes, 4to, xv(3)285pp; xiii( (3)200pp. Beautiful First Edition, bound in blue cloth with titles in gilt on spines. Gilt-stamp harp on front boards as well as the emblem of King's College London stamped in gilt. Frontis illustrations in each volume. Dozens of musical scores in volume one. Fold-out map of Ireland in the rear of volume one and fold-out map of "Carolan's Country" in the rear of volume 2. A well-preserved set. Square, tight and clean throughout with little or no toning. gentle bumping to spine ends and bumps to the front tips of volume 2. Very light toning to spines. A minor rub here or there. King's College Bookplate on the front paste-down of each volume though no interior evidence of library possession. Faint outline of where small paper spine labels, likely call numbers, were removed from the bottom of the spines. This was certainly not a circulating set. Both maps are in fine, unblemished condition. Fine publisher's slipcase with decorative paper-covered boards. From the library of noted New Jersey Irish-Ameican author, collector and professor of Irish history and literature, Tom Fox, with his unobtrusive blind-stamp on the title page of volume i and half-title of volume 2. Fox was called by Nicholas Basbanes, ",,, a kindred spirit...assembler of an uncommonly distinctive collection of Irish history and literature".
