12mo., 192pp. Sharp First Printing of the Second Edition, a H&S "Yellow-Jacket", from one of the most prolific British crime novel authors of the early 20th century. Originally published in 1939 and went through 3 printings before this edition. Bound in red cloth with titles in black on spine and the H&S logo blind-stamped on the front board. Square, tight and clean throughout with little or no wear. A few trivial spots of rubbing on paste-downs. Equally attractive un-clipped dust jacket, (5/- net price also listed on spine panel), has a couple of tiny nicks to edges and light soiling. Spine mildly toned. Still fresh and bright with no creases or tears. A very pretty collectable copy and even the reprints are uncommon, particularly in the original dust-jacket (Hubin, p.205).
