When The Gay White Way Was Dark (Valentine's Manual #7, New Series)

New York: Valentine's Manual, Inc., 1923. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine / Near Fine. Item #009818

12mo., 366(1))pp, Beautiful presumably First Printing from this "New" series, (originally begun in the mid 19th century in a different format), of a book of historical vignettes about New York City with accompanying photos and illustrations. It was issued annually with each volume focusing on a particular topic or decade in NYC's history. There were 11 volumes in the set and interestingly, the rear flap of the dust-jacket lists dozens of notable individuals, (Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and FDR amongst them), and institutions who purchased the entire set. Bound in light blue cloth with titles, decorations and borders in navy on front board and spine. Seven color plates and 83 b&w illustrations. Square, tight and clean throughout with insignificant bumping to spine ends and top tips. Very well-preserved. Gorgeous illustrated unclipped dust-jacket, ($5.00), has a couple of tiny nicks and short closed tears but is remarkably fresh and bright and uncommon in this condition. A gorgeous collectable copy.

Price: $75.00
