The Red Dancer of Moscow
London: The Readers Library Publishing Company (Duckworth), 1928. Photoplay Edition. Cloth. Near Fine / Very Good/Near Fine. Item #012260
12mo., 253pp. Beautiful First British and Photoplay Edition to coincide with the release of the 1928 Fox film titled "The Red Dance" starring Vanessa Del Rio and Charles Farrell. Bound in maroon cloth with titles in gilt and decorative borders also in gilt on front board and spine. Eight pages of stills from the film. The Readers Library was an imprint of Gerald Duckworth and Company, reprinting classics from between 1910 and 1927, re-launching as the New Readers Library in 1927 and publishing through 1946. Though notoriously flimsily made, this copy is square, tight and clean throughout with just a touch of the page toning typically found. A hint of wear to spine ends and tips and the gilt is largely faded on the spine. Gorgeous wrap-around Art Deco dust-jacket has a few closed tears and rubbing to folds and edges. Still fresh and bright with no chipping and quite scarce in any condition. A sharp collectable copy of a quite uncommon item.
