Philadelphia: Henry Altemus Company, 1908. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Item #013562

8vo., 448pp. Sharp True First Edition. Bobbs-Merrill published a reprint often confused as the first edition. Bound in publisher's red cloth with titles in white and illustration of the title character in-laid on the front board. Frontis illustration. Square, tight and clean throughout with no interior toning or foxing. Spine pushed in but joints and text block solid. Titles mostly rubbed off. Mild wear to spine ends and tips. Form the library of Frederic Dannay, who has signed the front paste-down as both Ellery Queen and Barnaby Ross, another pseudonym used by Dannay and his writing partner, Manfred Lee. A very attractive, and quite scarce, collectable copy of this important Queen's Quorum title and almost certainly the copy Dannay read when he put it on the list. (Hubin p.77).
