8vo., 334pp. Sharp First Edition with "First Published September, 1929" on the copyright page. Published later that year in the US by Appleton as "Shadow and the Stone". One of Harrap's "Sealed Mysteries" where the solution is sealed by a paper covering around the last chapter(s). Bound in red cloth with titles in black on front board and spine. Square and tight with just a touch of off-setting to end-papers but no toning or foxing to pages. A couple of spots of fading to cloth and a couple of tiny wrinkles on the front board. Very minor edge-wear. Solution seal at the rear has a few vertical tears and chips but remains readable and unbroken. Very rare to see the seal intact. Stunning unclipped, though unpriced creepy skull cover, (a price 3s.6d. net is on the rear flap for others in the Sealed Mystery series), has very mild soiling to rear panel but is fresh and bright with no chipping, creases or tears. A gorgeous collecgtable copy of an uncommon title and scarce in such high-grade condition. (Hubin, p.284).
