The Silent House (Photoplay Edition)
London: The Readers Library Publishing Company, 1930. Hardcover. Very Good / Good. Item #016749
12mo., 251pp. Sharp Fifth Printing, April, 1930, of this novelization of the play, and then the film of the same name released in 1929 by Nettlefold Films, directed by Walter Forde and starring Mabel Poulton and Gibb McLaughlin. With 8 pages of stills from the film. Originally published in 1928 by Cassel in the UK and The Dial Press in the US the same year. Though notoriously flimsily made, this is square, tight and clean throughout save some moderately toned page edges and a previous owner's small, neat name and address on the front end-paper. Mild rubbing to edges and tips. Spine a bit convex and looks like the crown cloth was repaired with a bit of glue to firm the attachment to the text block. Attractive unclipped, though unpriced, dust-jacket, has chipping at the crown and some closed tears that have been repaired with tape on the verso. Some color touch-up on the small portions of the tape that are visible from the front. Still quite bright and complete and presents very well. A solid copy of an uncommon title and at a great price, (Hubin, p.46; IMDB).
Price: $195.00
