Bound in three quarter black morocco over marbled covered boards. 5 raised bands with gilt ruled and decorated spine compartments. Title and volume number in C2 and C3 in gilt upon red and tan leather labels respectively. All page edges marbled. Marbled end-papers. Illustrated with portraits of the authors including a tissue-guarded frontis in each volume. Both volumes are square, and tight with very mild wear to edges and a touch of rubbing to lower spines. Quite well-preserved. Scattered foxing to blank end-papers and prelims, including frontispieces. Very clean pages otherwise. Small, neat inscription on the top of each title page date in the year of publication. A sound, handsome set and uncommon in the marketplace.
