Tall 8vo.,483pp. Solid First Edition of this fact-based, though fictional collection of letters from a traveling clergyman through Spain just prior to Napoleon's invasion and the beginning of the Peninsular War. Presumably, though the main character is fictional, it is based on a real clergyman and the events and observations are accurate. Bound in later, likely early 20th c. full dark green morocco. 5 raised bands with gilt ruled compartments. Title in gilt in 2nd compartment. Ownership initials in gilt at heel.ne label. Marbled end-papers. Square and tight with moderate rubbing to edges and extremities. A few mild surface scuffs. Scattered foxing throughout. A 1" are of abrasion to the fore edge affecting the outer edge of about 80 pages though no impact to text. A very pretty collectable copy of a fairly uncommon title and at a great price.
