8vo., 306 pp. Beautiful Stated First Edition of the second title in the landmark Lensman series. Bound in blue cloth with titles stamped in gilt on spine. Illustrations by A.J. Donnell. One of only 500 numbered copies signed by the author. This is one of the few copies for Smith's personal use which omits the limitation statement and number. This is quite rare. Square, tight and clean throughout save heavy off-setting and spotting to paste-downs as pictured though pages have no toning. Bookplate on front end-paper. Mild toning to spine and top edge. Discoloration spots to cloth but little other wear. Very aAttractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($3.00), has rubbing to folds and surfaces. A few short closed edge-tears and creases. Edge-wear. Still fresh and bright and presents very well. Warm inscription, signed Edward E. Smith, Ph.D, clearly to someone with a close association. A sharp collectable copy. (Currey, p.392).
