8vo., 409pp. Beautiful Photoplay Edition of this classic mystery and of the author's first book. Bound in blue cloth with lettering, borders and decorations in gilt on front board and spine. Illustrated with stills from the 1923 Vitagraph film starring Seena Owen, Martha Mansfield, Wilfred Lyttle and directed by Charles Giblyn. Square, tight and clean throughout with little or no foxing or toning. A bit of softness to spine ends but quite minor. Gilt a bit dulled in spots. Wonderfully well-preserved. Very attractive unclipped, though unpriced dust-jacket, has some tiny nicks and tears to edges and extremities. Small chip to the lower rear edge. Some rubbing to folds. Still fresh and bright. and presents very well. A very pretty collectable copy of a quite uncommon edition, particularly in such nice condition. (Petaja, Photoplay Edition, p.101).
