The Gentleman's Companion. Volume I Being an Exotic Cookery Book and Volume II Being an Exotic Drinking Book
New York: Crown, 1946. 2nd Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Fine / Slipcase. Item #018583
Two Volumes, 4to., 220pp., 217pp. Beautiful First Printings of the Second Edition of this hilarious and quite informative romp about the far east with hundreds of food and drink recipes by someone who it was hard to imagine was ever sober enough to write. Originally published by the Derrydale Press in 1939. Bound in red cloth with lettering in gilt on spine. Both volumes are square tight, and remarkably clean throughout with no toning or foxing. Spines very mildly toned. Near Fine publisher's slipcase a touch of rubbing to edges and a spot of soiling here and there but quite minor. A very handsome collectible set and though not uncommon, much tougher to find in such high-grade condition.
