8vo., 393pp. Sharp First Edition of the Second Series of essays on prominent poets and authors of the day including Benjamin Disraeli, Horace Walpole and several others. Beautiful unsigned Prize Binding with the arms of the Somersetshire College of Bath stamped in gilt on the front board. Full brown morocco blocked in gilt with gilt turn-ins. Five raised bands with gilt ruled and decorated compartments. Title in gilt upon a brown leather spine; series in gilt upon a black leather spine label. All edges gilt. Marbled end-papers . Square, tight and clean throughout save some foxing to end-papers and prelims. Only an errant spot here and there on internal pages. Very little wear with just a touch of rubbing to edges. Tiny, neat note on top of front end-paper, "Grammar (Latin & Greek), 1881". Quite well-preserved. A very pretty collectable copy and uncommon in such nice condition.
